About the Book

Are you shaking your head that another year is rolling along and you haven't done what you really want to do with your life? Does the word "spontaneous" in your life only apply to the latest hot flash or hair loss? If this is hitting home for you, Shift or Get Off The Pot is the book for you!

For more than 16 years Linda Edgecombe has been showing people how to laugh and have fun in their lives while at the same time encouraging people to have an honest look at themselves. In this book, Linda helps you find the answers to these three questions:

1. Are you doing the best you can, considering everything you have on your plate right now?

2. Are you on the "Deferred Life Plan", waiting for something better to come along or at least some energy to even thing about the question?

3. When was the last time you did something for the first time? No really, how old our your stories?

Throughout this book Linda encourages and humours you while she has you reflecting on yourself and your life. She shares 26 simple truths, ideas, and tips for taking action towards Getting Your Life Back.

Perspective Shifts from Linda

• January 16th is Linda Edgecombe's National Disconnect to Re-Engage Day!

• Feed your sense of humor. Laugh at yourself. Stop worrying about what others think. At your next dinner party, have everyone tell their most embarrassing story. Remember laughter is the strongest medicine.

• Make a list of all the things you find value in, in your home and work life, so that decision-making becomes easier and more satisfying. Identify your top 20, then narrow it down to 10, then 5. Now in 3 minutes, answer: “What do you want to experience in your lifetime?” Compare this list to your top 5 values. Do they align? Make your future decisions based on these top 5 values.

• Reduce the number of roles you play in your life. Think about all those roles you play and consider whether they are helping you -- or hurting you. Choose 3 roles that no longer give you joy and plan for a guilt-free exit.

• Choose happiness and your journey is mostly over - the destination is right in front of you, if you’ll only reach out and take it. The problem with most of it, I’ve realized that the closer we get to happiness, the more we fear it.

"What is the deferred life plan?" Linda says,
“Just like a savings plan - you deny yourself today in hopes of
a better tomorrow - only there is no great big payoff at the end.”
