Description: As we head into a new school year, our guest, Susan Kruger M.Ed. from SOAR Study Skills, talks to us about helping our children, no matter what age, to manage homework and study time. She'll tell us a few things about motivating our students, how to reduce the "last minute syndrome", and how to keep it all organized along the way. Most importantly she'll show us how to teach study skills that promote positive homework experiences.

About Susan Kruger, M.Ed. 

Susan Kruger, M.Ed. is a certified teacher and reading specialist. She combined her personal struggles as a student with her professional expertise to create a student-friendly system for improving grades and building student confidence. 

She has been teaching study skills since 1996 and serves as an Intervention Specialist for the world's largest educational publishing company.  She authored a study skills program that is used by hundreds of schools across the country and travels the country training educators in study skills and literacy topics.  She continues to work with students directly, helping them and their families achieve success in school and peace in the household.  She is the proud mom of two children and married to a fellow educator. About the SOAR Progam

The SOAR® program is quite unique because it is simple and student-friendly… meaning the strategies do not require a lot time or involve complicated steps. SOAR® focuses specifically on the core learning strategies that students need for school success. The steps are interrelated so they are easy to remember and students are very clear about when to use them. SOAR® is also family-friendly, recognizing the important role of the family in homework success and providing realistic strategies for today’s busy families.

The SOAR® Study Skills Curriculum has been adopted by schools across the country. This program has been taught to students from ages 9 to adult. In the last 12 months alone, over 100 schools have implemented the program.

Resources are available for both educators and parents to use with their children. Included are: Homework Help! for Parents Audio CDs, SOAR® Study Skills Book, Study Skills Curriculum, Homework Rx® eNewsletter, Homework Inventory for Parents, Homework Scorecard and more.
