About Danica Theodorakos

Winner of The Big O: Guest Host Contest

I grew up in Rome, NY and moved to MD in 1988. I have been a flight attendant since I was 19. I work one day a week as a flight attendant and being based in a Philadelpha means a 2-3 hour drive one-way.  Vicky and Jen *really* help pass the time. The other six days are spent being a mom, the more challenging but more rewarding of the two jobs.

I love to cook and involve the kids as much as possible and like Vicky, I love cookbooks and forget about ones that I have! (Where did I put that Paula Dean cookbook??) And I do plan a weekly menu each Sunday. Sorry Jen, I'm more comfortable with organization; I wish I could be more like you sometimes and just fly by the seat of my pants!

George and I married in 1999 and our twins, Alexander and Tess were born in April of 2003 and they are our only children. They were born at 29 weeks and both have mild Cerebral Palsy. Tess had a brain bleed that was detected in NICU which caused right-side hemiplegia. Her muscles on her right side tend to remain in a spastic state, like a rubber band pulled tightly.

Alexander was born breech which was the likely cause of hypotonia. His muscles lack tone, like a rubber band that is laying on a table. They have be receiving physical and occupational therapy since they were nine months old. They also received perodic botox treatments which works wonders on them. (I always ask if Mommy can have the leftover Botox but they just laugh and say "no".)

They are "mainsteamed" in a wonderful public school and only have a few modifications to their school day so they can participate with the rest of the kids. Despite developmental delays, they are very sweet, bright and articulate and I can't remember what life was like before them.
